More than five thousand freshmen came to the festival

September, 1 is the day when the academic year traditionally starts in Russia. Every year Ural Federal University organizes a big celebration for the first-year students on this day.

Yesterday more than 5 thousand new students gathered at the university square in order to celebrate this wonderful day and learn more about the university, which will become their second home for the following years.

The rector Victor Koksharov and the representatives of the Supervisory Board of UrFU congratulated the students with the first day of their student life. Victor Koksharov also presented a big star “Freshman 2016”, which will become the first star in UrFU Alley of Freshmen and Alumni. The students enjoyed performances of the university dance teams, sang the students’ hymn "Gaudeamus Igitur" together with UrFU academic choir and the rector.

All the students had a chance to participate in the Fair of Student Opportunities, a traditional event, which allows freshmen to learn about all the possibilities of the largest federal university, student organizations, sports, social life and other activities that will make their student life bright and memorable.
This year the representatives of different UrFU organizations worked in 6 zones: Leadership, Science and Innovations, Creativity, International, Stay fit (Sport), Young professionals. Some of the freshmen already joined organizations, they were interested in.

At the moment the total number of the first year students is 9419. However, the admission campaign is still open. The final results will be announced in the end of October, 2016. The students are coming not only from different regions of Russia and CIS countries, but also from Afghanistan, Syria, Venezuela, Pakistan, Korea, Senegal, Congo, Ecuador, Zambia, Bolivia, Jordan, Vietnam and Indonesia.
